SHOULD YOU BUY SAMSUNG GALAXY S9 IN 2021

 samsung

galaxy s9 was one of those devices that
samsung put out
obviously because it shares the name
samsung galaxy and
this is kind of an interesting phone in
a lot of ways
it wasn't really a huge upgrade in my
opinion from the galaxy s8 i think it
brought a lot of cool things i guess
but when i look at the samsung galaxy s9
i don't really feel the way
about it even though it's still kind of
supported i kind of think of the galaxy
s8 kind of being one of those crazy
phones
than the galaxy s10 being one of those
crazy phones i don't really feel like
the galaxy s9 is like that
but that doesn't necessarily mean this
phone is not worth it so i'll find the
cheapest ones of these phones link it
down in the description below
i also leave a couple other phones that
i may recommend in the description as
well
you can get them from there and help
support the channel at the same time now
on the front of the samsung galaxy s9
you do have that 5.8 inch super amoled
display
and it's a 1440p panel and i've said
this before and i'll say it again
samsung they make beautiful panels you
guys already know this
it's a beautiful front facing you know
display i don't think this thing has a
back facing display
and even with the bezel on the top and
bottom even that doesn't really affect
anything or make any but it doesn't make
me feel away
even though obviously like i stated the
bezel on it isn't the best looking thing
it's totally okay i don't really have a
problem with it and especially when you
consider the fact that the iphone 10
came out
just a couple months before this really
makes me feel really happy about this
because we still have notches on all the
iphones
there's no iphones that even kind of
look i would rather have this than a
notch to be honest
but i'm okay with that design too but
this phone for sure on the front
i think it looks beautiful still and the
panel is definitely not a flaw
it's definitely one of those things that
have held up extremely well for the
almost three years that it's been out
now you do have the usb type c port and
headphone jack on this phone as well
which is really cool
you have ip certification as well which
is huge but also you have a micro sd
card slot which that is a really awesome
thing hopefully samsung doesn't remove
it with the next version or
you know the galaxy s phones that are
coming out in like a week or two i guess
we'll see but the micro sd card slot on
this device
is a huge asset for sure and on the back
we have that standard glass back not a
frosted glass back or anything but i'm
totally okay with it
this type of glass back is still
perfectly fine in my eyes i don't know
how you guys feel especially with like
the frosted glass backs i like those
more
but this one still feels perfectly fine
in my head and you also have a
fingerprint sensor on the back you know
this was
right before samsung switched over to
the fingerprint sensor in the display
as i said before i think this is
perfectly fine having a fingerprint
sensor like this is perfectly fine but
it is kind of a learning curve if you
will but above that fingerprint sensor
we do have that single camera setup
which i'll go ahead and hit on right
now it is a single 12 megapixel sensor
and you have optical image stabilization
you have you know different capabilities
when it comes down to things like that
now is it perfect i don't know you know
i'm not really looking for perfect i'm
mostly looking for good and this thing
has the ability of shooting 4k at 60
which that in and of itself
is a huge plus and really did future
proof this specific camera
but you also have a lot of features
built into the specific camera lens as
well
it's not like this camera is you know
like a super outdated you know ugly
camera
really the only thing and i think this
may be the only problem that i have with
the back camera
it's really only one sensor and when you
look at a lot of phones that have been
coming out since 2018
they've all pretty much been having dual
camera setups if not triple or quadruple
sometimes even five camera sensors i
think
with the s9 plus that seems to be a
better camera because you do have an
additional lens on that
but this one it's a single camera you
don't really have crazy functionality
having that telephoto and ultra wide
sensor you know kind of capability
is huge and i always look at phones who
have that capability and really applaud
those because they just future proof
those phones like crazy with this one
only having that single lens
it really doesn't help it but it isn't
too bad either you know for a lot of
people
as long as you're not filming anything
crazy on your device will be okay but
that front camera is that you know
sensor have more of a problem with
it's a 8 megapixel sensor you also have
a 2 megapixel iris scanner which is
always funny to say
now it can only shoot 1440p videos which
again that kind of does date it because
we do have the ability of shooting 4k
nowadays on the front camera
on pretty much every phone that comes
out at least every flagship phone so
that's another pretty big thing that
dates it
if you're somebody who uses the front
camera a lot you make a lot of selfie
videos you post a lot of you know
selfies on twitter
or you're doing a lot of videos or
whatever using your front camera
you're definitely going to be having not
the best quality here unless you do a
lot of post processing
picking up a phone like a galaxy s20 or
your iphone 12 pro whatever you're gonna
see a bigger differences on the front
cameras on those phones than on the back
camera between these so
that's really pretty much how it's
summed up and that's kind of how i've
been talking about a lot of these phone
cameras that have been coming out
recently especially the used ones
just because the front cameras i feel
like have made a huge improvements when
the back cameras are stolen you know
making huge improvements but the quality
is
you know still there for sure now
software-wise this was
one of the things about this phone that
was kind of good but kind of bad at the
same time
so we did get one ui 2 which was on
android 10 which is cool
i think it did go when you weigh 2.5 as
well but i don't really remember but
this thing was pretty much guaranteed
and said that it wasn't getting one ui
3.
now is that a big deal it totally
depends how you look at it and the main
reason for this
is because when you have a phone like
the galaxy s10
samsung pretty much put out that
starting with the galaxy s10
it's going to be getting the next
version of android and that really made
me feel away because i really wanted to
see
more capability from these older phones
and yes the s10 is a cool phone and i'm
glad it's getting support
but it would have been even cooler had
samsung supported this device there's
not a lot of software support that these
phones get you know from the first of
all
but now that samsung added the extra
year could it really i mean i'm glad
that the new feature you know androids
including the s10 are getting more
updates
but i wish the s9 could have gotten it
too maybe it's just me but that would
have been really cool but again i don't
know how many people are currently using
this phone right now
but in terms of the software experience
no custom roms or anything like that for
the most part so
that really pretty much covers it up in
the software experience standpoint
now performance wise this phone has that
qualcomm snapdragon 845 chipset
an octa-core cpu an adreno 630 gpu
and then four gigabytes of ram on every
single model of this phone that came out
and i think performance was really
really interesting because
typically with software updates and
everything they don't really make a huge
crazy difference and you know the
performance
typically sometimes they do but very i
would say about 30
of the time that happens most of the
time it actually decreases their
performance
but going from one ui one to one ui 2 on
my galaxy s9
has actually improved the experience
quite a bit and that pretty much all
happened last year
so for my you know early 2020 review
that i did the galaxy s9 my opinion has
changed the performance is still good
but i feel like it's gotten even better
because of the software update
and the biggest change what i can allude
to to this is because of the software
with one ui 2 we did get that new
gesture based design which was always
there on android but now we had a much
more seamless you know you can
swipe up and get into multitasking like
that and it makes the phone feel that
much better and that much more of a
capable machine
when it comes down to the smoothest
factor i love having that type of
capability on a device like this
and going from the nav bar button to now
the swiping gestures
makes the phone feel that much it makes
me feel so much better
and i really do like that so that in and
of itself improved my experience with
the device overall
but the performance is still pretty
consistent it's not the fastest thing in
the world i already compared to all
those other android phones that have
come out
and like i said i mean i i don't know
what i was expecting
but it definitely has improved quite a
bit when it comes down to the whole
entire gesture based
experience and made the phone feel that
much smoother for sure is it perfect
like i said before absolutely not the
apple animations can sometimes still be
slow
but they have gotten better which that
in and of itself i think is a big
you know huge thing for this specific
device as well so in terms of
performance i still give a thumbs up i
think it's a really good performing
phone still it's not perfect but
role="button" start-offset="460720" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: white; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; background: white; border: 0px; color: var(--yt-spec-text-primary); cursor: pointer; display: inline; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" tabindex="0">i think for the age of this phone being
almost three years old it's still pretty
decent in my opinion so
in terms of the performance that pretty
much covers it up now winning it off
with the battery life this phone has a
three thousand million power battery
inside of it
you have wireless charging which is
great and you have quick charge fast
charging support and all that good stuff
and it has usb type-c which i don't know
if itself is really cool and it has
samsung decks which i also forgot to
mention but that i'll talk about that in
a second i guess but this battery life i
think is
okay it's definitely not great i think
if there was one caveat of one ui two in
my experience
it may have been the battery life but
funny enough one eye three
from a lot of people's opinions has
actually apparently made it better but
the s9 doesn't support it so there's no
point even mentioning it but
with the 3 000 million power battery
here it probably has degraded i think
mine is about like probably like 2 800
you know it's probably degraded a little
bit
but regardless if i had to make it go
you know last throughout a day i could
easily make it last around a day
but i don't think it's necessarily as
good as something like a galaxy s10 or a
galaxy s20 so that's another pretty big
thing to state as well so in terms of
battery life
that pretty much covers it up now to
kind of sum up this video and say answer
the question
is the samsung galaxy s9 still worth it
in 2021
well let me go ahead and kind of break
down some of the pros some of the cons
and kind of some of the whole entire
video from that so the pros
i mean there's a lot of pros for this
device still first of all on the outside
the display specifically
that super amoled display is still
beautiful it still holds up extremely
well
and every time i look at this phone and
i pick it up the display is one of those
things that i can't really complain
about a lot of phones
especially nowadays in that couple
hundred dollar price range you can
complain about the display
this specific device i can't really do
that it looks like a
really really good panel even though
there's a little bit of bezel on the top
and bottom
it's totally okay for the time being and
it still looks very very good
you have usb type-c with samsung dex
which is awesome which gives you
some type of desktop experience when you
plug it in which that in and of itself
is another huge thing with this device
and on the back you have obviously you
know like a really good camera setup the
fingerprint sensor you have wireless
charging and ip certification on this
phone
you have micro sd card slot support as
well which is huge in and of itself
and the phone still feels like a very
good phone it just got android 10 so
it's still going to be lasting for a
little bit longer
it's definitely not gonna last you know
probably for four or five years more but
security updates here and there like
it's still a compelling phone and it's
gotten cheaper over time which is huge
there are a few cons though i think the
front camera like i stated before and a
lot of other android phones too
it hasn't held up extremely well like
it's pretty good but it
for a three-year-old phone that's you
know in this price range there's a lot
of iphones that you know are in this
price range as well that have better
front-facing cameras than this thing so
it's another kind of
important thing to note this thing is
comp almost out of
date when it comes down to software one
ui three is now rolling out to all these
other phones the s20 has already had it
but it's still getting security updates
as far as i know so i think that's a
pretty good thing for sure
and sometimes it can get a little
glitchy in terms of the performance you
know i
like i said it's fast kind of and the
gesture experience has helped it but the
animation speeds are a little bit slow
here and there
and the battery life may not be the best
so those are just a couple of caveats
but even with those things being said if
you had to go use this phone i would say
go for it
but phones like the galaxy s10 even an
s10e
are going to give you a much better
experience because those are getting an
extra year of software support that's a
pretty big thing to say as well so
in terms of everything that pretty much
covers it up
