SHOULD YOU BUY IPHONE 8 IN 2021

SHOULD YOU BUY IPHONE 8 IN 2021

The iphone 8 was a device that apple

made
back in the day back in 2017 and what i
can tell you is
that for the most part this device was
such an
interesting phone at that time because
it kind of signified the last
and the beginning of a new generation in
this specific launch
now the iphone 8 itself was totally okay
i mean it was a very good phone i think
for the most part there's only really a
couple of things that really rubbed me
the wrong way
but because of this phone and because of
the iphone se 2
this device in a way isn't even that old
of a device
and it feels even newer now than what it
was when it you know even last year when
i made the 2020 review
because apple was still manufacturing
these parts they were still selling the
iphone 8
but because they refreshed the inside of
this device and really released it with
this same body
that really doesn't make this phone feel
that much older if i'm being honest
had apple just made all these bezel-less
phones year after year not released a
new one
then it would probably would be like
okay this is a really archaic type of
phone
but because the iphone se 2 shares a lot
of the newer parts with the newer
chipset and all that stuff
i think the iphone 8 is even more of a
current design it's definitely not new
but it's definitely not an old design
either which i've already talked about
too
now if you want to pick up an iphone 8
i'll find the cheapest one on amazon
i'll link it down in the description
below
but i'll also leave a couple of my other
recommendations that i'll probably say
towards the end of this video i'll also
link those down below as well
so you can get the from there and help
support the channel at the same time now
starting off with the front of the
iphone 8 we still have that same 4.7
inch panel that we had pretty much since
it first came out
and it's a retina ips panel it's 750p
and
for the most part you know just like the
sc2's panel it's not an ugly panel it's
not a bad panel at all
it's a pretty decent panel for an ips
screen and i feel like
even the bezel around it isn't even that
bad if i'm being honest
obviously you have the home button on
the front with touch id which i think
like i said before in this day and age
is pretty important face id was great
you know i'm glad but everyone's wearing
masks
it's just really hard to use face id
when you're anywhere besides your house
so i will tell you that's another huge
asset of having touch id nowadays
it's a true tone panel as well and i
will tell you stop force that you still
have a lot of other things too
and it's a very capable panel when it
comes down to it you have a lightning
port on the bottom of this phone
and on the back you still have that
standard glass back not frosted or
anything
but i think the back on this phone is
still one of its biggest
assets because if you look at the iphone
se 2 you look at the iphone 12s the
iphone 11s
those phones all have the same glass
back at this specific device
so at that point it really doesn't make
you feel any cheaper or any you know
older than a lot of the newer phones
that are coming out
now i will tell you this one has
wireless charging ip certification
a lot of capability when it comes down
to the durability of this phone
so that's another huge asset of this
device as well now you still have that
single camera setup
on this phone as well and it's a single
12 megapixel wide
angle lens and as i've said before and
i'll probably say it again
apple did a really good job on this
specific lens on the back
because it's 12 megapixels and i'm
surprised it's still 12 megapixels
because
all the new iphones including the iphone
12 pro max that over a thousand dollar
phone
still the base sensors are 12 megapixels
even though those are way better sensors
the megapixel count is the same which is
pretty interesting
now on this specific single lens you
have optical image stabilization which
is great
and you have the ability of shooting 4k
60 which is huge
that really does feature proof yourself
you know quite a bit because
every single iphone after this has also
only had 4k at 60
no 8k capability no 4k 120 or anything
like that
so you still have a lot of capability
with this specific device the fact that
it's still pretty current
on the frame resolutions that it can
film on the back now you don't have
portrait mode
or night mode or you know anything crazy
like that so you are
kind of dated in a way and you don't
have a telephoto lens or an ultrawide
sensor
and those two things that you know the
sensors and the features
are two things that i think either make
it or break it for you
for me personally i think it does kind
of break it because i love having an
ultrawide sensor in a telephoto lens
but i guarantee you about 95 of people
probably don't care
i don't think anybody really even i
don't really care that much so maybe
there's some middle ground like
if i had to use that honestly wouldn't
care that much like i don't use the
camera on my phone that much
all i'm doing is filming you know
snapchats or tick tock videos or
whatever
and i think you know this back camera
would be perfectly fine but the front
camera is also
pretty good seven megapixel sensor
however only 1080p
no 4k on the front nowadays we do have
4k on the front so that's a pretty big
difference and
kind of a disadvantage when it comes
down to it it's not a horrible thing but
i really do wish this thing had 4k on
the front
so i will tell you the back camera is
great for this type of phone for the age
that it came out
and for the fact that it's pretty cheap
now versus the front camera
it's not it kind of breaks for me a
little bit too so in terms of the camera
that's pretty much how i would kind of
sum it up now the software experience is
still pretty much the same we got ios 14
last year
so that was a pretty big asset and i
will tell you ios 14 was great
i've been running every single version
of ios 14 on it up until ios 14.3 right
now
and i think it's a pretty good
experience as i stated before i don't
really have any problems with it it gets
the job done
is it perfect absolutely not because
there's still a lot of glitches in it
but it has gotten better and i can
definitely see apple still focusing in
on it throughout you know the next
couple of months
before ios 15 comes out and i think by
the time my mid-year 2020 review comes
our 2021 review comes out it'll
definitely be a much better experience
for sure so
it's still going to be getting software
updates throughout you know 2021 we'll
see how 2022 goes but for now it's still
supported which is great so
that really pretty much covers it up in
the software standpoint now performance
wise
this thing has that apple a11 bionic
chip inside of it hex core cpu
and two gigabytes of ram on each model
there were two different models of this
device now what i can tell you about the
performance segment
is that first of all because it's an
apple built phone
their software is so optimized for their
specific layout other you know their
phones
so even though this phone only has two
gigs of ram that doesn't really mean too
much craziness because
you know they obviously take care of
their phones very well and they and they
optimize their software
for their hardware so this you know ram
portion isn't that bad of course you
know the more rain you have the better
and if you're trying to multitask a
bunch of apps in the background
you may run into some problems but i
think for a majority of people you're
going to be totally okay it's not going
to be that big of an issue
the phone is still fairly smooth you
know i didn't really run into too many
problems throughout this last year
but i feel like the only times i ever
experienced this phone being slow
or that i'm like oh maybe this phone
isn't as fast as whatever is when i
compare it to you know the
next model of phones the iphone 10s or
not even the 10
the iphone 10s and the iphone 12s like
that last year when i was comparing
those phones
that's the only times i feel like it's
slower and it's not even that much
slower if i'm being honest the ram
management's a little bit different
but it's not even that much slower which
is very very good and a bad thing if you
think about it
which makes the iphone 8 that much
better of a deal i think because the
performance
isn't really that outdated because it's
still kind of keeping up it's still
more than smooth enough for a lot of
people i feel like because the home
button design that definitely does age
it a little bit
but other than that it's still a very
capable phone
and for this price range it's pretty
good this is not a flagship phone this
is not competing with the iphone 12s
this is competing with other 2017 phones
in this price range
and i think for the price range in the
used market it's not a bad performing
phone and i think it's definitely
one of the better performing phone when
it comes down to it for the year and for
the price range for sure
so if you're trying to get the most
money for performance i think maybe
something like an iphone 10 may be
better but the iphone 8 is still a
really good performing phone when it
comes down to it so
performance wise in 2021 that's pretty
much how i would kind of sum it up now
to end off with the battery life
it has a 1821 million power battery
inside of it
mine has degraded i think it's below 90
as of this point
which is still not that bad of you know
a battery life but i will tell you
it's definitely not the best asset of
this phone you know the battery life
is one of those areas where i feel like
a lot of people are going to be
complaining at
and ios 14 hasn't helped it either that
definitely has taken a toll quite a bit
on the battery life of what this device
you know was capable of i feel like
whatever ios 11 was kind of comparable
to the ios 14 as well
but i will tell you for a majority of
people out there it'll probably get you
through a day but expect to be around a
charger it's definitely not going to
allow you that's for sure so
to kind of sum up this video and say
answer the question is the
iphone 8 so worth it and you know 2021
and what i can tell you is that i'll
pretty much just break down some of the
pros of the specific phone right now so
first of all
it has a pretty good panel on it for you
know what home button iphone that came
out you know in 2017
it has you know touch id which some
people may prefer still has that
lightning port
beautiful feeling in your hand it feels
like a very premium device it does not
feel cheap at all
you know pretty good camera sensor on
the back too i mean it's held up
extremely well
the front camera is a little iffy but i
feel like the total camera quality on it
is you know overall a net positive you
have software support in this phone for
a very very long time as well
you have a very smooth performance you
have you know very
a very good capable phone when it comes
down to the performance it's definitely
not a humongously you know
positive phone in every single area in
performance but it's definitely overall
positive as well
but there are some caveats to this
specific device
which some people may you know want to
know you know in my opinion
the front camera is a little bit of an
issue for some people no 4k 60
no you know other camera lenses besides
that wide echo lens so that in and of
itself
may make people feel a way about it i
like that it has ip certification it has
wireless charging
i think those are actual positives of it
it does have a little bit of a data
design as well so some people may think
like oh because it's
you know has a home button it may feel
older to me not really but to some
people it probably would and those are
pretty much the main negatives like
other than that this is still a very
good phone in my opinion
and there's really nothing inside of me
that wants to tell people like oh
avoid this phone or this phone's not
worth it or anything like that this is
more than enough a capable phone still
in 2021
and i think for anyone out there to pick
up this phone would be a really good
value for sure you know but
i will say on the other hand if you want
to pick up a phone like an iphone 10r
or an iphone 11 or an iphone 10 these
are also very strong phones to pick up
and i feel like the iphone 10 is a
better value overall than the iphone 8
even though they share a lot of the
similarities i would probably tell
people to go and upgrade
to something like an iphone 10 which
i'll also link down below but
also devices like the iphone 10 or
iphone 11
they only get better and better the
higher you go there
